Create an emergency preparedness plan.
We’ve had a plan for a long time. We keep a clear path out of the house. Keeping up with the dogs is no problem. They’re always right with us. We have smoke alerts and carbon monoxide sensors. We have a generator, gasoline, medicines, and phones at hand. We have water, non-perishable food, and a camp stove. It’s not unusual for us to lose power, so we’ve had practice. We have a gas log in our fireplace, so that’s saved us when we had a six day outage during a power storm. Living in tornado alley, we have a safe area. We have batteries and a radio at hand. In bad weather, I cook before the weather hits.

Nope no such plan in this house, in an emergency we are screwed

Well, I guess in a way, that’s a plan, too!

Wow, you are truly prepared. Have you faced a tornado so far?

We have had tornado damage many times from having numerous tall pine trees snapped off to having large branches driven through our kitchen ceiling. One of my sisters had her garage roof torn off. Bud’s sister’s house was destroyed. My parents house was destroyed in 1948. Bud always sits up till tornado warnings are past. We get in center hall with dogs during an actual warning. That means a tornado has been spotted on the ground. I hate tornadoes

Linda, I so understand! We don’t have tornadoes over here but due to climate change, more appear in Central Europe. 10 years ago we drove from Buffalo to Boston and about 40 miles before Boston we got a tornado warning. I was completely frightened. My kids made fun of me. But I was completely scared always watched the pitch black sky. We were lucky, not touchdown where we drove. We could not go anywhere on that motorway.

Your kids didn’t know the terrifying power of a tornado. When we hear tornado warnings, we take cover.

Although they were partly grown up they didn’t though. I would be running ahead, I think. I am terrified when it comes to such natural powers.

Nature is definitely in charge. Kids feel invincible. It’s the nature of the beast. My kids were the same, but have learned better. Both live in hurricane country now. My daughter’s house got water damage. My son works for the state and sometimes has to work disaster shelters. He hears bad stories.
