Thinking Time

Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

When I’m writing, I spend more time thinking about the past. That’s where most of my stories originate. I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the future. I do what I need to ensure the best future but I don’t have a lot of control over what comes.

A Humorous Look at Fortune-Telling and Its Pitfalls

My work friend, Charlotte, told me of running her credit card up calling “Miss Cleo” a TV psychic who advertised on daytime TV. “She tells me good stuff but keep stringing me on to run my bill up.

“Oh Charlotte.” I said. “Don’t call her. She’s a fake. She just tells you what she knows people want to hear. I can forecast as well as she can and won’t charge you a penny! Let’s see. You are going to meet a tall man with really dark skin who will really like you. Also, you will come into some money”

“Well, I sure hope I get some money.” she said. “It’s a week till payday and I ain’t got a penny.”

Monday morning she came in walking on air. “You told my fortune better than Miss Cleo.” she said. “I found a hundred dollar bill on the parking lot Friday on the way out. Then I went to the club on Saturday night with Cherry Dale and I met this tall, handsome man. He was just crazy about me. He’s picking me up after work today. You got to tell me another fortune.”

“Charlotte, I can’t tell fortunes. I just told that as an example of a fortune like Miss Cleo tells. I didn’t want her to get any more of your money.” I told her.

“Well, you sure told me right!” She insisted.

“It was a total shot in the dark.”

She clearly believed I had a talent. Quite a few times after that she asked for a fortune. They were all general things a woman might want to hear. A few times I got something she thought happened. She remembered those and she insisted I could foretell. At least I didn’t run her credit card up. I guess even a blind hog gets an acorn sometime.

Perfect Happiness

It is so easy to make Bud a perfect meal, I don’t know why I don’t do it every night.

There are several interchangeable choices. All I have to do is cook steak, chicken, roast beef or pork, ribs, or meatloaf with gravy. My second decision is between rice, stewed or mashed potatoes. The third decision is the side. Black-eyed peas, always Bud’s first choice, either pinto, lima, red, or green beans.

Of course, we need a bread. Biscuits, cornbread, or rolls are always fine. Should I feel particularly industrious, dessert is in order, preferably homemade apple pie or yellow cake with buttercream frosting.

I can throw all the salad in the trash. Oh yes, Bud always volunteers to make the gravy if its not cooked along with the meat.

College

Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

College was a thrill for me. I was free of my tyrannical father. I owed him nothing. I was working my way through and got just enough loans for tuition and books. L. Unlike today, there were no students predatory loans. Contrary to what you’d expect, I carried maximum loads every term and graduated with a 3.8 GPA in three years. I didn’t party or play. I had no intention of ever becoming ng dependent on anyone again. It’s interesting how situations motivate people differently. I have wed $1500 in student loans upon graduation. That was not a burden.

Messy

Bud spilled sausage gravy on his favorite shirt this morning. That made such a nice spot he coughed up a big gob next to it. I told him he was on such a roll he ought to just go ahead and see how many stains he could manage. It’s sitting on washer now pretreating before washing. .

Get rid of ants

I’ve never posted a household hint but this might help you. To get rid of ants, scatter cucumber peels about. Ants HATE them. They’ll be gone in no time. I didn’t believe it till I tried it. I know it sounds crazy but it works!
