Wild animals

Do you ever see wild animals?

I am fortunate that my yard touches several wooded areas. Of course my yard is teeming with squirrels and birds, who I feed. Deer often stroll across the wooded edges of my yard. We have been watching one doe for several years. She regularly births twins. Once, she brought her young twins and her twin yearlings to dine on our muscadines. We regularly see a red fox. Once she came and peeked in our garden room window. It is lovely to see all the creatures who share our home.

Favorite Visit

Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

My favorite visit is also my earliest memory. I went to sleep on the train headed to Grandma’s and was awakened by the sound of the back door closing. Sliding out of bed, I slipped down the back steps. Padding through the dewy grass, I learned about stickers. I shrieked in pain and Grandma rushed back to my rescue, dragging her shovel. Surprised to find I’d followed her, she extracted the stickers from my feet.

I noticed huge yellow road grader parked outside n a ditch at the edge of the yard. Grandma had me stand on the shovel and pulled me over to see it. She even lifted me up so I could climb on it a little. That was the first of many wonderful visits I remember.

Five things

Share five things you’re good at.

I am an excellent cook. I enjoy feeding people. Cooking comes naturally to me.

I enjoy writing and have some talent for it.

I was a good nurse.

I enjoy some success with houseplants.

I am a good conversationalist.

Grace

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

I am clumsy and uncoordinated. I couldn’t dance if my shoes were on fire. I’ve always wished for a lithe, graceful body. It seems like being able to move like a ballerina or a gymnast would be the finest thing. There’s no way I could ever sneak up on anyone. I’ll just have to settle for being grateful most of my parts work like they should, albeit it clumsily.

Morning

Are you more of a night or morning person?

I am definitely a morning person. I am usually awake long before dawn looking for light to be peeking from around the curtains. If I am lucky, I can drift off again. I am always napping in my comfy chair by eight-thirty in the evening and in bed by ten pm.

Meat

What are your feelings about eating meat?

I eat meat. I realize it is a burden for the planet. It would be much better if we were all vegetarian. I should make the effort to change my habit. I know if I had to procure and prepare what I ate I would be a vegetarian.

Cotton

What are your two favorite things to wear?

I don’t even have to think about this one. I wear only cotton, the older and softer the better. My favorite would be a midi length cotton dress for working in the yard. It matters not if I get it wet or muddy because it dries quickly. When I’m done, I shower and don its twin. In cooler weather, I wear cotton jeans and tops. All my tops match all my jeans, so I don’t have to make a decision. The older my clothes, the better.

Technology

What technology would you be better off without, why?

I am a dinosaur on computer technology. I don’t even know what I don’t know. I am the beneficiary of so much I can’t even identify. I make little use of most social media.

Hard Decision?

What’s the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make? Why?

I loved school, a feeling that led me to believe I’d like to be a teacher. After I got my education degree. It didn’t take me much time in the classroom to realize I was not cut out to be a teacher. I was a total mismatch. I am so appreciative of those who do that demanding job but quickly knew I was totally inadequate. I made the decision to go to nursing school, a career that suited me. Never underestimate the challenges teachers face. They do a job most of us are not willing or capable of doing.
