Holiday meals

Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

Of course, our family has holiday favorites. Turkey is always the guest of honor. Then there’s cornbread dressing and homemade cranberry sauce. Green bean casserole is traditional along with mashed potatoes and gravy. Guests would be disappointed without sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie. Our family usually divides up the menu items. Anticipating leftovers, guests know to bring take out containers. One time a guest said, “Wow, I didn’t bring anything and I’m taking home a feast!” I was fine with that since she was a cat lady.

Sleep

If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

I enjoy very vivid dreams so I would miss that part of my life. I often bring what goes on in my awake life into my dream life so it’s not uncommon for me to come away with enhanced understanding of troublesome situations. Also, many of my dreams are ludicrous so I enjoy them. I believe they replace the play I enjoyed as a child. Even if I remember a miserable dream, I can usually trace it back to a situation I need to explore. I would miss sleep.

Pet Peeves

Name your top three pet peeves.

I hate it when healthy people use handicapped parking. I am not referring to people with invisible handicaps. I am speaking of lazy, entitled people. I wonder if if doesn’t occur to them God might say,” You want handicapped acces? Okay”

I hate griping in traffic. It is a totally irritating practice drivers inflict on their passengers.

Selfishness is such an imposition on our family and friends. How right it would be if each person would take responsibility for themselves and do a bit extra.

Now and Always

Who are your current most favorite people?

First and always, , my family members are my favorite people. The longstanding relationships are imprinted on my soul. I am so grateful.

Dogs

What are your favorite animals?

Dogs are my favorite animals. They are loyal, loving, and easy to keep. They never tire of their dog parents and are so forgiving if I step on a toe. Mine will kiss me before I can even tell them I’m sorry.

Beach vs. Mountains

Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

I love both. Happily for me, I am at the beach as I write. It is a bright, sunny morning with the water sparkling from the sun. It is so calming. I was fortunate enough to have a weekend in a mountain cabin high above Sylamore Creek in Arkansas a few weeks ago. It was also beautiful. I think the best is whichever I am enjoying at the moment. I wonder if a visit where the mountains touch the sea would be too joyous to bear?

Favorite Meals

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

My family’s favorite meal was always roast beef in gravy with potatoes. If they didn’t polish it off at dinner, the kids cleaned up the leftovers for breakfast. Home fried chicken with mashed potatoes was always welcomed cordially. Another thing they loved was to come in from school and find soup simmering in the crockpot. They’d dive right in and have dinner then and there. Should they be patient enough to wait, they could have cornbread with it. I left soup going in the crockpot a lot, knowing the kids were always ravenous when they got off the bus.

Mark Twain

If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?

Mark Twain fascinates me. He was a brilliant writer. A student of human nature nature he fearlessly wrote his observations. His multilevel writing enchanted me as a child and continues to fascinate me today. Every time I read his work I find something new to ponder.

Instincts

Do you trust your instincts?

Yes. If I get the feeling I should or shouldn’t do something, I pay attention. We have instincts for a reason. I think instincts contribute to survival. Animals don’t seem to question their instincts.
