History

What major historical events do you remember?

Like everybody of my era, I remember the JFK assassination. I was in the eighth grade sitting on the bleachers in the gym with friends . It was surreal. It made such an impact, I even remember what I was wearing, a green corduroy jumper dress with a pleated skirt. It was such a shock it seemed like an Alice in Wonderland experience. I instantly understood nothing would ever be the same. I lived in the segregated deep South, so I am sorry to say some prejudiced ,younger students cheered but were quickly shamed into silence. It was a life-altering moment.

Risk?

What’s the biggest risk you’d like to take — but haven’t been able to?

It hasn’t crossed my mind to take a risk lately. The biggest risk I ever took was to encourage Bud to quit his job in the energy field and pursue a degree in nursing, a field with growth and job opportunities. It would mean I’d have to commit to working sixty hour weeks for the duration. We both worked on the budgeting and reached the conclusion it was possible. We launched the plan. I got all the overtime I could at my regular job and sought out extra shifts in the emergency room and ICU. Meanwhile, Bud concentrated on his studies. He graduated with honors and no student loans. I survived the ordeal.

I am proud of us both.

Family

What are you most proud of in your life?

I am most proud of my family. They are good people I would choose for friends.. They do the things they should and go the extra mile. They persevere through difficult times. They do not hate they should. I love them.

In Progress

What have you been working on?

Thank goodness, I don’t have to think about this. I am crocheting a gift for a friend. I expect to finish in a day or so. I start projects with great anticipation but my enthusiasm flags toward the end. When I finish this project , I will make my friend a purple and gold sweater. She is a great fan of LSU. She dresses up for all the games.

Soft Heart

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I try to conceal the fact that I am soft-hearted. I tease or use humor to steer the subject away if I fear my feelings will betray me, particularly with people I know. I don’t want to appear weak or vulnerable. I learned to be stoic in early life. Sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes not.

Lazy Days

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

Lazy days make me feel good. I normally do what needs to be doing next, so if I feel like taking a day off, I do it. we inow what we need.

Successful

When you think of the word “successful,” who’s the first person that comes to mind and why?

Homemaking is not often named among careers but it is a worthy choice. I admire a family member who chose that career. Though she worked a couple of times, she ultimately chose to be a full-time homemaker and mother. She was home for her children, did all the housework, mowing and yard work, raised a garden, canned and filled her freezer with produce. Her children are grown now, both admirable, productive citizens. She helps care for elderly relatives and steps up when neighbors need help. She’s active in her church and community. I admire her tremendously.

Good Neighbor

What makes a good neighbor?

A good neighbor is friendly but non-intrusive. My groceries were recently delivered to my neighbors l’s house and he brought them over. I tended his dogs when he was hospitalized. My other neighbor caught my dog when it slipped out. I was grateful. I share baked goods or canned goods sometimes. My neighbors say they appreciate it. We share pertinent news, burn bans, boil water advisories, and other important information. We all try to make life easier for each other.

Dancing

What could you try for the first time?

I suppose I could try dancing. I have attempted a few times and felt totally ridiculous. I’ve always been clumsy with absolutely no sense of rhythm. I’ve always admired dancers but believe I could probably fly as well as dance.
