What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?

I love being part of a family that cherishes our oral history. We all have stories we’ve heard many times and want to hear or tell once more. It’s common to ask for our special favorites. I feel like I know many relatives who died long before I was born. The little guys coming along love the stories. , too

Brand Loyalty

What brands do you associate with?

I have no interest in fashion or brands. I have no designer purses, shoes, or clothes. In fact, my wardrobe has one major requirement. Items must be made of cotton and have pockets, since I can’t be bothered with a purse.

However, on reflection , I realize I am loyal to one brand. I prefer Gold Medal Self-Rising Flour. It gives consistent results. Does that count?

What could you do more of?

Where do I start? The very next thing I must do more of is gardening. My flower beds are weedy and overgrown, screaming for attention. Morning glories have totally taken over one bed. My flagstone patio needs grooming. It’s shameful how I’ve neglected it. This list could go on and on. It have promised myself and my flowers they’ll get the care they need as soon as the cooler days of fall arrive.

Best advice

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I ever heard was from a guy Bud knew who worked in the oilfield.

“Only fools f…..ks with snakes!”

Can’t argue with that!

Sunshine

What things give you energy?

Sunshine gives me energy. There’s no better way to wake up than to birdsong and sunshine. It just gives me a feeling of optimism and timelessness, reminding me that I am just a part of something bigger. I am not responsible for everything, just my little corner of the world. I love that universal feeling.

Favorite Album

What’s your all-time favorite album?

My favorite is by Harry Belafonte. I am posting the cover below. It has “Lemon Tree”, “Day-o”. “Darling Cora”, and numerous other wonderful songs on it.

Planting

Which topics would you like to be more informed about?

I would love to know more about horticulture. I love to garden but sadly lose plants. My mother-in -law could drop her mop outside the back door and it would root before she picked it up. Many times I took her an ailing plant and the next time I saw it, it would be hale, hearty and a dazzling green.

She was very casual about her planting. She did not purchase fancy pots or fertilizer. Her pants loved her. If they’d sprouted feet, I knew they follow her. She rarely bought a plant. She’d just start with a cutting from a friend.

Music

What would your life be like without music?

I am not a great listener to music.I don’t have music accompanying my routine activities. I have ADD and am easily distracted by any sound. Listening to music is a decision. When I want to listen, I want to be totally absorbed.

Holiday Plans

How do you celebrate holidays?

We have two children in separate cities so we usually spend a couple of days with each. Sometimes we plan a dinner with our siblings around the holidays. Since our families are lifelong friends, it’s common for both sides to visit. The host usually sets the menu and everyone brings sides and desserts. It’s a loud, happy group. It’s good to see them come then good to see them go.
