Parenting-An Unexpected Trigger

Reblog from sisterwives

The Sisterwives's avatarThe SisterWives

On Tuesday, Dawn courageously shared a part of her story with us. You may have noticed that she touched briefly on a project she and a fellow survivor, mother, and blogger are starting to support others who no longer want to feel alone, who want to find a community where there are others who understand completely what they are living with day in and day out.

This is exactly the kind of project the Sisterwives get behind wholeheartedly. Not one of us needs to feel alone, no matter the trauma we have endured. If you are a survivor or know someone who is, please read Dawn’s second post here today and consider contributing to this incredible anthology project or sharing the opportunity.

Together we are stronger.  ~   The Sisterwives

Southern Fried Crazy

by Linda Bethea

We love our crazy folks down South.  Oh, we may not want them right up in the house with us, not that it doesn’t happen from time to time, but certainly we need them to brighten up our holidays and remind us of how dull life would be without them.

My perenially pregnant Cousin Carol waddled into the family reunion this year with her nine kids and current live-in. He’d look like Willie Nelson if she cleaned him up.  Willie Albert Swain as toddlerExcepting her penchant for living in sin, Cousin Carol is fanatically religious, devoting herself to the food kitchens, fellowship nights serving evening meals, and community closets of all the local churches, though not their morning services.  “It’s hard to git nine young’uns dressed that early.”…

A blast from the past

Reblogged from Pensitivity after she read my story about Ralphie the Rat

Going through an old foot locker, I came across an old scrapbook of poetry I’d written in the 80s.

Thought I’d share this one with you as it’s based on a true story:

A Cat’s Delight

(Written 15th August 1983)

Dad brought us home a puppy,

A tiny ball of skin,

It must have cost a packet as

His wallet looked awfully thin.

A bald chihuahua pedigree,

Which looked more like a rat,

One thing was for certain,

It didn’t impress the cat!

We put it in a shoebox

Padded out with cotton wool,

A dish of milk and Farley’s

Then put it somewhere cool.

We made sure he was comfy,

And off to bed we went,

Thinking of the price of it,

How much our Dad had spent.

Next day we got up early,

Before the crack of dawn,

To look in on ‘our baby’…

Oh no! The…

Butterflies Are Impossible

Reblogging from Anchors and Butterflies

Anchors and Butterflies's avatarAnchors and Butterflies

Many of you are familiar with lbeth’s stories and writings. Her husband Bud is evidently a ‘closet’ poet and captured these beautiful thoughts in a poignant piece that has touched my heart for many years. I first saw it as an insert for the memorial service for my teenage son, and it touched the depths of my soul.

To try to control beauty or love is to squash its very essence.

I Don’t Want To See The Faces Anymore

Genius

George's avatarThe Off Key Of Life

I’m tired of having the faces put up on a screen in front me by people looking for sensationalized ratings; faces that have taken so many innocent lives, who have been turned into fifteen minute celebrities at the expense of faces that will never be shown, lives that will never be discussed and futures that will never be realized.

I don’t want to see the Columbine shooters who killed 13 students and injured 24.

I don’t want to see the Virginia Tech shooter who killed 32 students.

I don’t want to see the Northern Illinois University shooter who killed five and injured 16 more.

I don’t want to see the Fort Hood shooters who killed a total of 16 and injured 48 more.

I don’t want to see the Salt Lake City or Omaha shopping mall shooters who killed 13 and injured eight.

I don’t want to see the Aurora…
