V Mail

V Mail from on board from Neekie and EmilyThis

is a V Mail Kathleen Holdaway received from her sister Annie Holdaway.  V mail was photocopied mail used during WWII to cut down on mail.  Annie was in the Women’s Army Corps en route to assignment in Egypt in 1944.  A friend, Emily, also in WACS, added a post script.  Kathleen wrote to both for the duration.  Annie and Kathleen lived together after Annie was discharged.  Emily came to visit for a couple of weeks.  After her discharge, Annie went to college, eventually getting her Masters Degree and taught in Texas for for many years.  Annie’s parents weren’t pleased at all about her decision to enlist, feeling it was not ladylike.
