I had no idea chickens viewed snakes as lunch. What was not captured on this video was the snake-eater being pursued by the rest of the jealous flock. Clearly, the snake supply was inadequate. Kind of changes your view of the slur “chicken “ doesn’t it?
I’ve seen guineas go after snakes with a lot of enthusiasm, but not chickens. I have seen a chicken swallow a mouse, which reminded me they are said to descend from raptors. Can you imagine…”This is the biggest worm I’ve ever seen!” or “Let’s get rid of this egg eater before he gets big enough to eat my babies!”

Have you seen the black snakes that get in the nest and eat eggs. Maybe they have an ax to grind.

Yep! I used to gather eggs as a kid and always made sure I looked before I stuck my hand somewhere feeling for an egg. I didn’t care if they were non-venomous, body instincts would make me wig out if I touched one. My grown sister saw a tiny grass snake wiggle out of a box once and I thought I’d have to resuscitate her. I just tossed it to a yard cat, who treated it like yarn. Mean, maybe, but I had to deal with a hysterical woman.

Cat probably had his eye on it, anyway.

Most amusing. I had no idea chickens liked to eat snakes.

Neither did I. I grew up around chickens but never saw anything like that.

A hopeless one, for sure.
