Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.
I am not a world traveler, though I’d love to be. Banff, Canada is the farthest I’ve been from home. we spent a week there seeing the sights. It was exceedingly beautiful. I’d love to live there, in summer, though I’m sure I’d be overwhelmed by the challenges of winter. I don’t believe I’d ever get saturated with the mountains, glaciers, wildlife, or pristine waters. It’s beauty is always in the back of my mind.

The furthest I’ve travelled was Aguascalientes, Mexico. People kept telling me about all these beautiful places I should visit, but the only thing I cared to see were the women.

The furthest I’ve gone from home is my grandma’s house, deep in the woods of Ontario, where you can drive for hours, and just see tall, slender trees.

You could take up nursing and be a travel nurse. My sister does that, or get a job working for the parks service.

Oh, you have plenty of time. When I was 20, I had no money for gasoline for my husband’s truck. Once in a while my parents sent $5 so we could go home for weekend. This was in 1970. Are you in college or working?

Until you can afford a big trip. Get camping equipment and go camping. It’s great fun. You can get it second hand, at thrift stores, or ask for free used stuff on Craigs list. People buy that stuff all the time and don’t use it but a time or two.

So how can afford to go there

It was wonderous. It was mostly rural with large stretches of rolling prairie against snow-capped mountains. It was so pristine. I was constantly aware life must be hard or the country would have been packed. The waters were plenteous and pure appearing. The cost of food was out of sight. I wonder how poor people manage. If I were looking for a home. I would choose Canada. I hope you get there. I live in Louisiana, so truthfully know nothing about harsh winters.

I had a dream for many years to visit the “eternal city” Rome. My dream came true 7 years ago. I visited Rome and was able to attend Mass on the festivity of St. Peter and St. Paul with the Pope presiding the Eucharist. Then I was able to visit the Vatican museum, garden. Sixtine Chapel, St. Peter Basilica and all the important historical sites of Rome. After a week in Rome, I traveled in a cruiser to the Greek Islands, Athens and the important Greek sites. I still have a dream to cruise across the Mediterranean ocean.

During the fall semester of my final year in college, I studied abroad in Scotland. It was a magical, eye-opening, & wonderful experience. I traveled around Scotland and even went to London, learning, exploring, and meeting new people. I was able to run and hike the wondrous landscapes in Europe, a great way to connect with nature and find new parks. Studying in Scotland allowed me to study Exercise Science from a different perspective than in the States. I felt like it was a growing experience for me to be on my own and get out of my shell. I loved every second.

As I. mentioned in an earlier comment. 99% of my travel comes about through a ‘busman’s holiday’. For me that has been about giving workshops around the world…something I love to do. I have met some amazing people this way.

It has been a very interesting life. Meeting people from around the world and learning about their customs etc. I rarely ever stayed in an hotel…always in people’s homes – which is the way to learn..

So true….being there feels somewhat like being on the edge of the earth. 99% of my travel is what we call a ‘busman’s holiday’. Because I have made my living through my art for nearly 50 years, the busman’s holiday works very well:)

Alberta is so pure and pristine. One thing I was impressed with. Food is so expensive. I looked twice at everythingI bought. I was careful not to waste a drop of milk, slice of cheese, or crumb of bread!

I think that also varies from state to state but yes, I think everything was a bit more expensive over the border.

Canada is lovely. I’ve been on the edge several times. Furthest from home?? I’d have to read my account of living in England to see how far East I went from there. John would have known without looking at a map.
