What principles define how you live?
My principles are simple. I just try to do the right thing. I am not always successful. Sometimes I get lazy, careless, or short-tempered. Since I’m retired, my life is not so demanding. I don’t have to deal with difficult people or make challenging decisions. I don’t have a schedule. I just try to do the right thing

I try to live by the Golden Rule. To do unto others as I would have done to me.

I also try and do the right thing, I also try not to judge people as there is only one true judge

I recently heard a podcast that resonated. In a nutshell the message was: In each day find something to be grateful for and someone to bless.

Beth, think how the world would improve if EVERYONE followed your philosophy. Don’t ‘just do it’, as Nike says, but ‘do the right thing’.

I made pickled pears yesterday. If you were my neighbor, I’d bring you a jar.

My principles are pretty similar to yours. I don’t only try to do the right thing, I make a conscious effort to try to do the Nice Thing. It’s my goal to make a difference to someone’s life in a positive way every day. I try never to let a neighbours birthday slip by without sending them a card and perhaps a few sweets. I bought myself some nice lights for the garden, fuelled by sunlight. Since they received some compliments I have now made sure that all my neighbours have at least one similar light in their gardens to brighten their nights.
I try to pay it forward by leaving the cost of a drink to be donated to someone fallen on hard times, when I go to a cafe. I always show my appreciation for good service with a compliment and a Thank You. Trying always to let management know when a member of staff has made my visit pleasant and perhaps leaving some chocolates to be shared amongst the staff. I admit this benefits me also as I am often remembered and receive good service more often than not. I thank bus drivers for a safe and pleasant journey so they feel appreciated for their efforts.
Being nice costs me little but can make a big difference to someone’s day. Where acceptable I am also free with my hugs. Sharing little human warmth with someone else can make them feel appreciated. Hugs
