Finish the Story #3

Becca and Joey had been high school sweethearts. They’d been married four rough years. Joey had finally gotten a good job with benefits. Becca was three months pregnant and finally capable of giving up babysitting the neighbor kids. One awful morning, little Joey woke up with a fever of one hundred two degrees. She hurried him in to the doctor. Within an hour, she got the worst news of her life. He had leukemia. He was going to St. Jude’s for treatment immediately. Once he was in remission, it was likely to need a bone marrow transfusion.terrified

Becca was devastated as she waited for Joey. She was terrified for two reasons. First of all, her baby was sick. She might lose him. The second was, Joey might not be Little Joey’s father. She’d turned to his buddy, David, for comfort after Joey cheated on her with her friend Cara. Three weeks later, suspecting she was pregnant, she forgave Joey and they’d reconciled. They’d married three weeks after graduating from high school.

As she waited and pondered what to do she found herself at the computer doing some research and thought ok even if blood related that doesn’t mean you are able to donate part of your body or blood to someone, this made it easy for her to decide what to do she told Joey about the leukemia and the bone marrow transfer but nothing about not being their son’s father after all they had the same blood type and doctors can’t tell if he is the father or not without a DNA test and there is no need for that so why rock the boat more then needed.

    They will ask family and close friends to be tested and maybe his natural father will be a match and if he is she decided she still wouldn’t say anything because what would that achieve other then pain and fighting and their son needed them so she would just keep mum about it.

  2. What was Becca to do? Should she tell Joey that she cheated? What would he do if he knew she had been with his best friend? What could he do, after all, he cheated first with her best friend. So many thoughts were racing through her head right now. Deep down she knew the baby wasn’t his, but David’s. She named the baby after Joey though and things were really really good between them now. Joey stepped up and became the best father. It would devastate him knowing the baby wasn’t his. It would destroy him and there’s no telling what he might do to David, to himself.

    Becca decided to give it to God in prayer. She threw her burden upon Him and begged him to save baby Joey and to save her little family. She told God she was so sorry for what she had done. She even begged for forgiveness for blaming Joey for her affair. It wasn’t Joey’s fault she laid with another man, it was all on her.

    Joey and Becca were young when the married and had baby Joey. They made too many big mistakes in their relationship but they found the love they once had and began to build from there.

    With her heart so heavy with regret, she picked up baby Joey as he lye almost lifeless and hooked up to an IV and held him close to her. Baby Joey gripped tightly to his mothers hand. He knew he was safe.

    In that moment Becca saw a light like she’d never seen before outside the hospital window. The sky was brighter then ever and as baby Joey breathed a sigh of relief, Becca knew in that moment God took all her burdens away regarding her dilemma with Joey. She knew everything would be okay.

    Joey walked into the room at that moment and embraced his wife and baby boy. He looked into Becca’s eyes and said with the most sincere voice, “we need to tell David baby Joey is sick and he might need to give some of his marrow to save our son.”

    Becca looked at Joey and said, “you know?” Joey said, “I’ve always known. You are my wife and David is my best friend. Baby Joey has many of his characteristics and though David is his biological sperm donor, I am his father.”

    Becca broke down in sobs for the grace that Joey showed towards her and the Grace and forgiveness God had bestowed not only upon her, but upon Joey.

    There little family would survive. Even though grave mistakes were made by both Joey and Becca, those mistakes gave them the most beautiful baby boy they had ever seen. Baby Joey reminded them of how much they truly did and continue to love each other.

    Becca and Joey survived infidelity and they came out of this turmoil so much more in love. All secrets were out on the table now and thus the healing had not only begun, but finished. Now, Becca and Joey could help their baby boy conquer his most treacherous battle, leukemia.
