Public Speaking

Have you ever performed on stage or given a speech?

I was a nurse educator for many years as well as a member of a nurses association. Public speaking was a large part of my job. I got totally comfortable with it since I was totally knowledgeable about my subject matter. After a few years I got involved politically on the national level advocating for nephrology nurses and patients. I visited Washington DC. Several times to speak to lawmakers. Nutses can do a lot politically.

  1. It doesn’t surprise me that you would have been involved in public speaking… Interestingly this very topic came up this afternoon with some friends. I have done quite a bit of public speaking in my time, mostly on the subject of art….like you, it was on a subject that I felt very comfortable with.

  2. I can imagine you well speaking in front of an audiance. And, as you said, once you know what you are talking about, what should go wrong? I had to speak in public too (leading courses or moderating performances) but I still sing rather than I speak in public.

  3. I’m not sure you would call it public speaking but I was leader of a Craft group for many years so I did a lot of public events demonstrating craft instructions etc. I also used to do public speaking at my church meeting in front of 100 plus people… Didn’t give me any concerns.

  4. I’m impressed but not surprised. I did the training thing, so lots of public speaking. But you hit the nail on the head – it’s easy to be comfortable when you know what you’re talking about. Knowledge is key. (Works the same with sales.)
